Gateshead Skip Hire Permits Made Easy
The Council has introduced a charging scheme for the issue of licences for the placing of skips on a highway as of the 1st April 2007; the charge is £17.80 per skip and applies for each 28 day period it remains in place. This action has become necessary to assist the Council in recovering the costs of carrying out this important highway safety related activity for the residents of Gateshead.
To position a skip on the Councils highway the person wishing to deposit it must apply to the council for permission (a highway includes a path, pavement or road).Anyone depositing a builder’s skip on the highway should be aware of the following requirements:
It is an offence to place a skip on the highway without the permission of the highways authority;
Applications for retrospective permits are charged at £81.75
The highway authority may grant permission (a licence) with or without conditions;
The owner of a skip must ensure that it is guarded and that it is properly lit during hours of darkness
The skip must be clearly and indelibly marked with the owner’s name and telephone number (or address), and comply with the detailed requirements of the 1984 Regulations;
The skip must be removed as soon as practicable after it has been filled.
